Get the correct size.
Before getting the blade, measure the distance between bricks. (The with of the mortar joint.) Then get the closest sized blade that is smaller then that distance. If you get too thick of a blade, it will cut into the brick. If you get too thin of a blade, it is harder to keep it aligned with the mortar joint. But you can work with too thin of a blade. with to thick of a blade, you are out of luck.
I had two different sets of bricks, done at different times. The mortar joints were different thickness. The blade that worked perfect on the older work was just a bit too tight for the newer work. Because I cleaned up the older work first, I didn't discover this until I started on the newer work. So I ended up needing a second blade.
I didn't have a log of joints to repair in either section, so I can not comment on blade life. Both blades show that they have been used, but neither is worn. They are just bearly broke in...
If your grinder has it as an accessory, pick up the concrete cutting guard and dust collector. It gives you better depth control, as well as cleaner working conductions. In any case, spend the money to get a filter bag for your shop vac. It both saves wear and tare on the shop vac, as well as preventing dust from traveling through the show vac. Be sure to wear eye protection and a dust mask. Hearing protection is also a good idea.
Don't get discouraged if you have problems controlling the grinder when you start. It takes a bit of practice, but soon you will be zipping along!
