Chiaro Veneer 8 in. x 18 in. x 10 mm Tumbled Travertine Mesh-Mounted Mosaic Tile (10 sq. ft. / case) - Product information

Add a splash of contemporary styling to your decor with the MSI Chiaro Veneer Tumbled Travertine Mosaic Tile. This attractive wall tile features an arrangement of 5/8 in. thick, seemingly random length tile strips on a 12 in. x 12 in. mesh sheet that makes installation a breeze. With neutral beige shades, this tile creates a distinct pattern for kitchens, bathrooms and other residential or commercial spaces. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer.

I had never worked with any tile or natural stone before. I was a total novice. The reviews we read liked the product but were not encouraging in terms of the DIY side of things. They seemed to vote for having a pro do it. There were lots of comments about the stone being hard to work with and cracking and chipping. I spent about 10 hours putting up about 25 square feet of stone. I had complicated cut outs around a window, numerous outlets, and cabinet bases that were not square to the counter tops.
I spent time talking with people that had experience with this and watching lots of YouTube videos. I also took my time, did lots of rechecking of measurements, and developed a few tips and tricks as things went along.
Using a wet saw was crucial. I rented one from a local source that worked really great. I could not imagine trying to do the needed cuts with a dry tool like a Dremmel or a Roto-zip. Especially the wedge shaped ones that I needed to deal with the varying distance between the counter top and the bottom of the cabinets. The same was true for the very small space (less than 2 rows) between the counter top and the bottom of the window. I had to rip individual tiles in half. The channel for the wet saw is wide so there was no good way to support the stone when ripping. I hit on the idea of using a piece of card board under the stone. I had to change it often because the water made it break down after only one or two cuts. When I do this again, I will make a jig out of wood that has the slit for the wet saw pre-cut (like a miter box).
I did not use any extenders in the sockets. I brought the tile right to the edges of the work box so the "ears" for the sockets ended up on the tile just like they used to sit on the dry wall. I did use my Rotozip to fine tune a few cuts and to expose the screw holes for reattaching the outlets and switches.
Long story short, I would rate the level of difficulty at about a 7 (out of 10) for a novice and I would rank it at about a 4 for the next one I do. To reiterate, the stone itself is beautiful and not inherently hard to work with.

I love the look of this tile. Looks great in our kitchen as backsplash. However when we initially order 40 sq ft we had to send 20 sq ft back and reorder due to damaged product. You have to be careful with this product. We had a lot of tiles that were cracked or broken at the ends.

BEAUTIFUL... IF installed by a professional. This tile is really sharp! Neutral in color but enough color variation(s) in the pattern to make it interesting. The tile is small, rectangular pieces with a polished edge. We looked high and low to find just the right compliment to our kitchen cabinets/counter tops. I don't believe anyone could be disappointed with "the look" when completed.
The tile is extremely difficult to work with for the Do-It-Yourselfer. We had a seasoned installer and even he struggled. But if you have a good installer, it's totally worth the money. If installed properly, this tile is super rich and classy. We used the coordinating tile borders for trim on the sides vs. the standard end caps ... that requires mitering the edges but, again, gives a lovely finishing touch.
This tile is VERY affordable! (that will help offset any higher installation fee.) You should buy extra pieces for matching up/breakage (it happens.) Again, the tile is so affordable that the extra pieces are well worth the total cost of the project.
Highly recommend this product as long as it is professionally installed by a conscientious handyman. We love it!

This is a great looking tile, however I only recommend it to experienced tilers or the above average DIY’er. Buy extra tile as the end pieces always come broken, despite all the effort of securely packing it for shipment.
