MSI Rustique Earth 12 in. x 12 in. Gauged Field Tile is a pale gold-black Natural Stone Slate with a midas touch effect. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, this tile can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout and is suitable for residential and commercial installations, including kitchens and bathrooms. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Nice slate poor "factory" packaging
The slate was and is beautiful, I always enjoy opening up the boxes and see the differences of each piece and it own individual features,
as stated the factory packaging was less than desired, as there were cracked pieces internal in the boxes, we had enough to do the project and it turned out looking great,
do to the fact it is natural materials, the thickness varies and setting it can be a challenge as one piece may be 3/8" thick on one edge and 1/4 on the other side, so one will have to adjust the bedding mortar accordingly.
grouting is more challenging as well as it is unsealed, product and one needs to keep working on the washing of the tiles for a longer time than with the ceramic glazed products, if one does not, a grout haze could be left on the slate, this may take three or more hours of time, after grouting,
(note: the counter tile is the slate on this order, the wall slate was slate from earlier purchase from HD, for wood stove backing)

The price is right for natural stone, but think double what you need when you order as the thickn...The price is right for natural stone, but think double what you need when you order as the thickness varies a lot and there are lot's of pieces with rough protruding edges across the tile that makes them unsuitable for any floor that someone might be walking on in bare feet. Once I had shorted through what would work and laid them down then end result was very nice.

Nice tiles but...I purchased these tiles to add to some I already had from HD and Lowes. Did not really need whole tiles because I intend to cut them as subway tiles to mix in with my other ones, which is a good thing because 7 out of 10 were broken! I can't really blame Home Depot or the company these came from because these were shipped to my home and fault may be with the shipping. They were packed fairly well, but did not have a FRAGILE sticker on the box, which probably would have helped reduce the amount of broken tiles. I work for a package carrier, and I know first hand how heavy boxes are treated. If I needed whole tiles I would be very upset, but I will keep them and try to get as many cuts out of them as I can. There will definitely be more waste, but I need the color. My suggestion is to have them shipped to store for pickup, and also that the company start putting FRAGILE stickers on the boxes.

I'd say nearly half of the tiles arrived broken, chipped, or fell apart as soon as I picked them up. HD will take back the broken ones and you can return whatever you don't use. As long as you plan for it and expect it, it's not the end of the world. Just make sure you order more than you need since you do need to mix and match tiles from different boxes to vary colors ad patterns and if you are short one case then you will be doing the last part of your project all from one box. These tiles are pretty difficult to work with if you're a first time DIYer. I've done tile work before but am definitely not a pro. I've never worked with natural stone before and honestly I struggled a bit with them. The natural stone lends to a lot of inconsistencies with size and thickness. Some have sides quite a bit longer than 12x12 and some quite a bit shorter. The thicknesses vary tremendously. This all makes it difficult to align corners and level the surfaces. They also break very easily, especially when making precision cuts. It can be frustrating and takes a lot of patience and planning but the end result is really spectacular. I've never reviewed anything ever on any site and felt compelled to do it here. If you're a first timer I would not recommend using natural slate tiles.
