With its natural variation in color and striking layered texture, slate creates a unique showpiece in any environment. It is strongly recommended to seal all natural stone. Good sealers provide a window of a few seconds for cleanup. Sealers do not prevent 100% of damage due to spills. Please follow the sealing manufacturers guidelines on how often a sealer should be reapplied.

I needed to tile a small kitchen (7’ x 12’). The recommended 1.2 multiplier is not correct for these tiles. I went with a 1.5 muliplier and it barely worked out. The reason it just worked is that about 10 to 15% of these do not look at all like the pictures. They are just smooth grey stone with no features. Another 10% had variegation that made the tiles very fragile and prone to cracking. I had to replace 3 tiles after install due to cracks going all the way through the tile. It is difficult to prevent cracking because the back of the tiles are not flat. That means you need 80% coverage with the thinset on the back of the tile. Any voids will be weak. The tiles also are not uniform in size, they vary +/- 1/8”... You have been warned... I used a new diamond blade in the tile saw. I had no issue with chipping, even on very thin cuts. Also, the top surface of the tiles is not flat and smooth. It makes grouting dificult because the tiles do not create a uniform flat top surface.
Be sure to sort all of the tiles before you start. I also placed and numbered each tile to ensure it went back in the same positon as the dry fit.
The final result was truely amazing. The look and feel of uneven slate is perfect in the kitchen. I sealed the floor after finishing but I would recommend sealing the tiles before instal.
