This MSI 12 in. x 12 in. Three Rivers Gold Slate Floor and Wall Tile offers a bold combination of earthy tones that will add a splash of rustic styling to commercial and residential spaces. This tile is constructed from durable, vitreous slate material, comes in an unglazed, textured finish and incorporates random variations in tone. This tile is suitable for installation on floors and walls. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Nice Tile
The color mix is nice, but there is a large percentage of gray tiles. Since they were so cheap, I bought 3 additional boxes of 10, and cherry picked the best ones for our application. In our 6 boxes, we only got a couple that were truly "gold", and a few solid reddish ones. Most were gray with color highlights. In the end, since we were able to cherry pick the best ones, the mix is nice, not too gray.
Just something to keep in mind, buy a lot more than you need. Also, there were a lot that had been broken, and reglued, but since the finish is "rough", it was not a problem.
Lastly, some tiles were literally twice as thick as others, so it makes it a bit more tricky to install...having to thicken the mortar layers on some, and getting an even, level surface.
Overall, these tiles are very nice, just be sure to buy extra.

Thick good quality tileI returned this product, not because of any defects, but I did not like the color once I received it. I ordered 300 sq feet, based on reviews of people saying there wasn't much rusty ones. They were mostly gray. I just wanted a little rust accent, so I thought PERFECT. However, EVERY TILE was rusty. Which would be very nice, except it didn't quite go with my countertops (this was a kitchen installation) and the gray wasn't gray, it was the green/light blue slate color so overall the floor would have been lighter than I wanted. This is a very nice floor, good quality and you can't beat the price, even with paying for shipping. Home Depot would have saved me 80 bucks if they just offered samples. There is another I'm thinking of replacing this with, but the picture on the site is only of one tile, and there are no samples offered (again), so I probably will end up buying the flooring somewhere else.

Your Slate Tile search is over...I spent a month looking for slate tile for our kitchen floor. I was excited to see that Home Depot had Slate at a cheaper price but same quality as the big name places.
So instead of having to spend said amount on just slate tile at a tile/outlet center I was able to pick up everything I needed (Slate Tile, backer board, mortar, grout, sealer etc.) plus a book on how to tile (Home Depot 1,2,3) for the same price.
It's been over a year and floor still looks new, and the complements are still coming.

Beautiful slateSlate was tough to work with for a first time tiler (pieces varying in size). That being said, love the way my kitchen and entry way turned out! I would recommend purchasing at least 15% extra tile because you will receive some broken ones. Using larger grout lines will help mask for the variation in tile size. Also, don't forget to seal the slate before grouting!

very bad cutsI do still like the color of the tile. That is one of the big reasons I purchased this so I gave it the second star. However, we have installed in 1 of 3 sections that we plan on laying it and it was a nightmare to get it down. Do no expect to have straight grout lines or a level surface. The tiles are all different thicknesses and sizes. The worst part was that a lot of the tiles were cut oddly shaped, it could be 11 inches at the top of the tile and 11 3/4 at the bottom, making it even harder to put the tile down next to another piece. We will defiantly have to re-square a lot of the tiles as we get down to the end of our project. Also, be sure to order a lot of extra if you decide to go with this tile. We came across several boxes that had at 5 of the 10 tiles broken. I think we even received two boxes that someone else had already returned because they were all taped up and mostly broken. We have started using Lowes for our projects as this is the second time Home Depot has given us used products.

In Door PatioWe wanted to give our indoor patio an outdoor feel. We chose this floor tile because of its rustic uneven setup and for the variety in colors. You will get a bit more gray tiles. Best solution is to buy a few more boxes. Lay out your tiles prior to setting them to get an idea how you want the tile patterns to look. Some tiles are fragile when handling and breaks easy. I learned to hold each with two hands to avoid that issue.
Once laid on the floor the tiles gave us the desired look which we wanted. We are very happy with the results. We also decided to use the patio as an office. This definitely added a great visual difference from the brown carpet that was here before and is a great opening statement when coming into our home from the front door.

You get what you pay forHaving worked with similar slate before, I ordered more than 50% extra, knowing I would want to pick through the tiles. Of 50 tiles I ordered, 13 arrived broken, and another four had been broken and glued back together. You could pay more per square foot and get better quality material, or you can pay this price knowing that you are going to have some waste. Also, being slate, be prepared for differing thickness, from 1/4" to 5/8". Buyer beware.
