Professional tile layers disdained this large-format tile and I would guess this is the reason why the tile is being discontinued. I found the tile easy to work with by buttering and letting the thin set cure BEFORE cleaning up the grout grooves. We came back later to grind out the cured thin set and we used rapid set. 4 tiles laid is 16 sq. feet and that is an advantage for floor tile. Also note we used mosaic tile for a border thus making the large tile a predictable pattern for the main area. Too bad, but at our Home Depot the web site informs us the tile is discontinued. We get raves from our visitors that see the floor.

However, as I am always looking to find deals on porcelain that matches future project designs, I found myself in HD in our area during the Black Friday week. I discovered this tile marked down to 63 cents per square foot, and immediately bought the entire inventory at a 75% discount. My wife was all for it, and the project began in earnest. Not only is the price incredible, the product is worth the regular price in mind too! It is quite large, and went down in no time at all in our pre-leveled basement. I was able to lay 394 square feet in only 9 hours! I have a lot of DIY experience, so I knew to dry layout first, check for deflection over the basement floor and use the right products (Custom Large-tile format white mortar and 1/2 x1/2 trowel). I am quite pleased with the fact that we are able to complete an otherwise pipe-dream project on the dime, but I am also happy to share my opinion that this product is worth the cost of $2.49 per square foot. Just know that there are at least 13 different patterns in the tile, and dry-laying the tile is imperative before adhering your first tile. As you can see, I used a brick-pattern as my tile saw cannot rip 24" squares on the bias. Wife is pleased, husband gains crazy browny points!!! On with the framing of the theater room and my office space!!!

All tiles completely flat (no high spots). Used over a brick fireplace. Looks fantastic. Cuts easy. Used the 12x12 for the mantle supports as they are a wee bit thinner. I'm glad we went with the 24x24 Nature Rapolano for the face and hearth. .
